Thanksgiving Service 11.20.2005
1 Chronicles 16:34

The history of thanksgiving

Thanksgiving in the Bible

I. Thankfulness is not just in good times, it's embracing the bad.

1. Finding the purpose and growing from the hard times.
Job 1:21

II. Thankfulness is not just for our strengths, but for our weaknesses.

2. Learning our position with God. Jn. 15:5 &
"our weakness is His strength." (instead of focusing on weakness, be thankful for His strength).

Romans 8:26
1 Corinthians 1:25
1 Corinthians 2:3
1 Corinthians 15:43
2 Corinthians 11:30
2 Corinthians 12:5
2 Corinthians 12:9
2 Corinthians 12:10
2 Corinthians 13:4
Hebrews 4:15
Hebrews 5:2

III. Thankfulness is not just in speaking, it's in doing. James 3:14-17

IV. Thankfulness starts with believing that you have something to be thankful for. It's a perspective change.

Hebrews 12:2

V. Thankfulness when built by perspective change, sets blessing in motion by speaking Truth, not necessarily the perceived truth.

Proverbs 12:18
Proverbs 16:24

VI. Thankfulness is often a hidden virtue.

1. Often-times, it's hard to be thankful, we must dig in or search for what to be thankful for.
2 Kings 6

VII. Being thankful will keep us from missing or losing visitation/revival/awakening/societal change.

Luke 19:44
Luke 24:31

VIII. Piecing It Together
(Our 7 Points to take home to build thanksgiving all year long).

1. Be thankful at all times. Especially in bad times, looking for God's hand. There will be no miracles without God sized problems.
2. You have to talk about it
3. May your thankfulness be built in doing things to show it. Salvation and God's Presence forces me to talk about it.
4. Start actively changing your perspective. Get up in the morning and choose to be happy and thankful.
5. Remember the coming blessings
6. Take an active roll in looking for things to be thankful for. Speak them out over yourself and others. Quote scripture. Set in motion. Be thankful in advance.
7. Pray for open eyes
