Thought of the Week 4-3-2008

"The freedom to do your best means nothing unless you are willing to do your best."

-Colin Powell: 65th U.S. secretary of state

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow. --Denis Waitely

Tip of the Day:
"Time pressure can have powerful effects on the body. Our brain regards clocks, deadlines, and interrupted schedules as a threat, and calls up the "fight or flight" stress response. The incessant struggle to do more and more in less and less time also makes us more likely to respond with toxic anger to anyone or anything slowing us down. Trying to control time by strict scheduling is like trying to control what we eat by strict dieting. We become so obsessed with it that it becomes more -- not less -- important in our lives. If we relax our grip and stop seeing time as an enemy to be beaten into submission, time relaxes its grip on us. Learning some specific time management skills can help." Dr. David Sobel, Medical Director for Health Education at Kaiser Permanente, shares some tips in this article. [ more ]

Be The Change:
Try implementing one of the time management techniques Dr. Sobel suggests in the above article.

I personally attended a Franklin Covey Seminar called FOCUS and it totally revolutionized EVERYTHING about my time-management style. If you are interested in signing up and learning to use a Franklin Covey planner, you can do that here. Or, better yet, try going to this site and actually watch a webcast from their archive! IT’S FREE!!!! DO THE FREE ONLINE COURSE HERE!

Have a great week!
